This is something quite normal as getting organic traffic from Google can take anywhere between 6-12 months.
So, in the hope of generating instant traffic, people try to leverage social media. And it works to some extent.
But the traffic from social media is very inconsistent. Whenever you add a new post, you will get some traffic for 24 hours then it drops.
Use a social media platform that performs more like a search engine.
And right now, Pinterest is the only platform that works like a search engine.
I bet you didn’t know that.
If you optimize your boards and pins well, 1 single pin can bring traffic for at least 6-12 months.
This is something that only Pinterest can do. Can you imagine the potential if 100 of your pins start to get traction?
The exponential effect is huge.
So, why should you choose Pinterest?
According to Statista, Pinterest has already reached 460 million active users and is growing very rapidly.
This is why you will see so many bloggers bragging about Pinterest. The fact is that Pinterest is the best platform that can help you earn a full-time income with your affiliate links.
7 Best Ways on How To Increase Pinterest Traffic
Before we get started, I assume that you have already converted and claimed your account with Pinterest.
This is essential as Pinterest will understand your content better and give you a boost in impressions.
Also having a Business account will help you to have access to analytics which will greatly impact how well you can track your performance.
“What gets measured, get managed” Peter Drucker.
That being said, let’s see how you can increase your Pinterest traffic:
1.Add New Pins More Often
If you are struggling with Pinterest traffic, it means that your pinning schedule is not optimum.
To get the best results, it is recommended to add 10-30 pins every day. This is the most effective way to increase your impressions which will increase your CTR(Click-through rate).
Here is the deal:
All the pins should be optimized to get maximum traction.
Remember in the beginning I told you Pinterest works like a search engine? Well, this is exactly why all your Pins, boards, and even profile should contain keywords that are related to your niche.
I will show you how to do keyword research later. For the time being, let’s focus on how you can create a pin that can go viral.
Here is what makes a Pin viral:
- The size of the pin. Vertical pins with an optimum size of 735 x 1,200 pixels perform best on Pinterest. But it’s better to try different sizes to know what works best for you. For example, you can try pins with these ratios: (2:3), (1:2), and (9:16).
- A good description. Your pins should contain a good description of your content. People should know what type of content they will get when they click on your pins. They should also contain at least 1 keyword so that it can be found on Pinterest search.
- Fonts that are easy to read. You will notice that fonts that are easy to read usually end up in the top search results. People want simple things. You don’t want to use fonts that will put any kind of extra pressure on your readers.
- Use simple images. Pins with a lot of space tend to perform better. So avoid adding too many pictures or elements on your pins.
- Use only a few hashtags. Based on my experience, adding 2-3 hashtags to your pins is enough.
Now that you know how your Pins should be designed, it’s time to find keywords for your Pins and boards.
Finding keywords on Pinterest is easy. The trick is to add keywords that have enough search volumes so that more people can find your Pins.
For instance, if your account is about affiliate marketing, you will need to find keywords that are closely related to the term “Affiliate marketing”.
So, head over to your Pinterest profile and type the word “Affiliate marketing”.
As you can notice, these keywords will be excellent for your boards:
- Affiliate marketing for beginners
- Affiliate marketing quotes
- Affiliate marketing on Pinterest
- Affiliate marketing tips
- Affiliate marketing strategy
- Affiliate marketing programs
- Affiliate marketing without a blog
Once you have created your boards, you will need to create pins that are relevant to each board.
Let’s say you have to create pins for ” Affiliate marketing tips”. Type the term and hit enter.
Here are some keywords suggestions :
- Affiliate marketing tips for social media
- Affiliate marketing tips to earn money
- Affiliate marketing tips for beginners
- Affiliate marketing tips and tricks
- Affiliate marketing tips for online business
- Passive income with affiliate marketing
- Affiliate marketing tools
- Affiliate marketing for entrepreneurs
These are the Keywords that will be perfect for your PINS.
Pro tip: You can also create content around these keywords. Though some keywords might not have enough search volumes on Google, they can really perform well on Pinterest.
For instance, if you type “Affiliate Marketing” on Pinterest ads you will get this result:
The suggested terms have more than 5 million only searches on Pinterest. Now, you can see the potential of Pinterest?
3.Join Group Boards
Now that you know how to use keywords on your pins and boards, it’s time to join some group boards.
Many people in the industry claim that group boards are not effective. But I don’t agree with them.
Though Pinterest favors new pins and personal boards, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t join a few group boards.
Group boards are effective as they will extend your reach to a lot of people.
Suppose you join a group board that has 10,000 followers. Every time to add a pin to that board, it will be shown to all the people following the board.
In short, you have just extended your reach to 10,000 people.
So, go ahead and join at least 10 group boards that are relevant to your niche.

4.Always Try To Increase Your Followers
Having a lot of followers is important. But it is not necessary to have a large number of people following you.
This is because the Pinterest algorithm works in a way that favors pins that are fresh and get more engagements.
Now, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try to increase your followers.
What I have noticed is this:
If more people are saving and clicking on my pin, it is a signal that the pin is relevant. The more people interact with my pins, the more impressions they will generate.
This is why having at least 1,000 followers is important. If only 10-15 people save your pin, it will generate more impressions, therefore increase your chance of getting more traffic.
I have had pins that went semi-viral just because a handful of my followers saved and clicked on the pin.
5.Try To Increase Your Repins
Usually, when you add a new pin, it will generate some impressions and clicks for a few days. Then it will drop significantly.
If I want to get the sea result either I have to create a SIMILAR pin or I can add save the pin to different boards.
Once your impressions drop significantly, try to repin that pin on a few group boards (1-5). This will increase your impressions and clicks significantly.
The trick is to add a single pin to ALL relevant boards. Of course, you should do that in a non-spammy way…
If you have a pin that performs above average, try to add it to all relevant boards within 1 week.
This will increase your repins and engagement enormously.
One thing you should understand: A pin that gets 50 repins in 1 week will outperform a pin that gets 50 repins in 1 month.
6.Apply For Rich Pins
Rich pins are pins that contain extra information that helps the pin to stand out on Pinterest’s feed.
There are 6 types of Rich Pin:
- Product pins
- Recipe pins
- Movie pins
- Article pins
- Place pins
- App pins
Rich pins have bolded titles that help them to stand out on a user’s Pinterest feed.
Having Rich Pins will enable you to get more impressions and clicks. If you haven’t yet applied for Rich pins, it’s no big deal.
It will just take you a few minutes to enable Rich pin for your account.
7.Be Very Patient
When it comes to making money or getting traffic online, there is no shortcut. Though many people claim to get outstanding results in just 1 month, most new bloggers never get such results.
As you can see, there has been a significant amount of traffic from both Twitter and Pinterest.
Had I been more impatient, I would have given up on Pinterest.
The thing is: I have seen bloggers getting only 5,000-10,000 monthly visits in their first year of using Pinterest.
Those same people are generating 100,000 monthly pageviews in their second year of using Pinterest.
Understand that blogging takes time. But once your account starts to get momentum, you will be amazed by the results.
Is waiting for 2 years to get 100,000 monthly visitors too much? If it was not for blogging, would you wait for 2 years in a boring job to earn $10,000 every month in 2 years?
Most people see it like this: What? 2 years? That’s too long to wait to earn $10,000 per month. I want to earn 10,000 per month in less than 3 months.
Successful bloggers see it like this: Oh, in just 2 years I can generate 10,000 monthly? Investing 2 years is not a big deal. It will be really worth it.
Final Thoughts: How To Increase Pinterest Traffic
As you can see, if you do those simple things you will get enough traffic for your blog.
One thing is important here. Getting targeted traffic is more important than getting more traffic.
Most people focus so much on traffic that they forget that many people are getting only 25,000 monthly page views and earning a full-time income.
So, even if you don’t get a tsunami of traffic right now, be patient enough for your account to reach its tipping point.
